9th International Conference on X-Ray Microscopy

Several excursions will be organized during the conference. They are open to anybody interested including accompanying persons. Please use the fields in the "social programme" section on the conference registration form to sign for the excursions. The trip details are subject to change.

Monday - Zürich City Walking Tour

Take a morning walk through the picturesque Zürich old town with a knowledgeable guide, enjoying the lovely old buildings, and hearing about the people who left their mark on Zürich. Become acquainted with important features of Zürich, its landmarks, shops and museums. Learn about the places you might enjoy exploring further during your stay in Zürich. The number of participants is limited on this tour.

Costs: EUR 10 per Person

Tuesday - Boat Trip to Rapperswil Castle (Lake Zürich)

The excursion boat leaves in the afternoon (15:30h) from Zürich "Bürkliplatz". In "Pfäffikon" you get the change to hop off the boat and take a walk on the famous boardwalk (→ Infos, german) to "Rapperswil". If you stay on the boat you have more time to explore the cosy town of Rapperswil e.g. visit the towns unique rosarium.
A reception will take place at 18:00 at the Rapperswil castle (→ Info on castle, german). At 19:30 the boat will leave for the trip back to Zürich. The conference dinner will be served during the journey back to Zürich.
The boat trip and the dinner (except alcoholic beverages) are included in the registration fee. (Accompanying persons at extra cost and upon availability of spaces)

Wednesday - Glasi Hergiswil and Lucerne

Enjoy a train ride through the Swiss countryside to Hergiswil, home of the world famous Swiss glass factory. After an introductory show, we will watch the intricate choreography of multiple glassblowers at work, creating the art glassware designed by Roberto Niederer and others. We will also visit the several museums and excellent showroom at the factory.
From "Glasi" we travel by boat to Lucerne. In Lucerne we will explore the medieval Old Town and cross the famous Chapel Bridge, a 14 th century covered footbridge spanning the River Reuss. The Chapel Bridge is the oldest wooden bridge in Europe and has become the symbol of Lucerne. At the end of the afternoon, we will return by train to Zürich.

Starting point: We will meet at 8:45 at the Zürich Hauptbahnhof, returning at 17:00.

Costs: EUR 43 per Person.The cost for the trip includes the train fare. Lunch is not included

Thursday - Basel

Thursday's excursion is a train trip to Basel, a vibrant Swiss cultural center on the Rhine River. We will explore the picturesque old town with its lovely buildings, beautiful churches, and historical sites. We will stroll through Barfüsserplatz named after the barefooted Franciscan monks who worked there, explore the Münster, Basel's famous cathedral with its wonderful red sandstone sculptures, visit the Rathaus (Town Hall) with its brightly and elaborately painted facade as well as take a moment or two to do a bit of shopping in typical Swiss shops.

Starting point: We will meet at 9:45 at the Zürich Hauptbahnhof under the Niki de Saint Phalle statue "Guardian Angel". We will return around 17.00.

Costs:The cost for the trip is 46 EURO per person and includes train and ferry fare. Lunch is not included
